For parents
The questions you came here with.
Straight answers to the things parents most often ask us in the first call.
How do you find the right tutor for my child?
We start with a free thirty-minute consultation. Tell us the student, the subject, the exam board, and the goal. We then hand-pick a tutor from our vetted pool. You meet the tutor before any payment is taken.
How do you keep my child safe?
We only engage experienced teachers, and every tutor completes our Safer Recruitment process before they ever meet a student: an interview, a check that they hold legitimate qualifications, confirmation of teaching experience, written references requested directly from their referees, and an enhanced DBS check for UK-based tutors or a police certificate for those overseas, and mandatory safeguarding training. We have an Education Adviser and DSL, and a single confidential channel for safeguarding concerns. Read the full safeguarding approach.
How is progress tracked?
Your tutor builds a learning plan with you at the start. Progress is reviewed every half-term against that plan, not just at exam time. If something needs to change, we change it early.
Can my child change tutor if it is not working?
Yes. If a match is not working, we replace the tutor and absorb the disruption ourselves. The student does not lose a lesson and is not charged again.
Where do the lessons happen?
In our online classroom, our purpose-built online classroom. It has an interactive whiteboard, native maths and chemistry tools, and lesson history. Not Zoom.
Can parents join lessons?
Yes, at any time. Every lesson is also recorded for safeguarding and dispute resolution, and those recordings are held securely by Sophyra rather than shared with families, tutors or students. We review one only where we need to look into a safeguarding concern, a complaint or a dispute, or where the law requires it.
